UGHHHHHHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHH literally just picked this damn thing up from getting the scratch fixed in the paint from my past post. I'm so sick of this bad luck.

But to be less snarky, you might get Safelite to seal the rock chip and stop the spread, since the crack is below the field of view. I mean, it’ll not be 100%, but I think you could drive a while with a fix.

I would give the filler/sealer a try for sure

meh who needs windshields anyways

I mean it seems maybe too big to be repairable, though whether you actually have to fix it depends on your local laws.
Honestly if I wasn’t legally required to do anything about it, I’d probably be lazy and let it goes until it got big enough to see from the inside.

Not I

Damn government sticking their noses in our lives!

Yeah I'll see what they say. I have a stupid $500 deductible though if I try to go through insurance.

Just worried about the coming cold though.

The seal should be cheap, and very much worth a shot.

I guess it could vary but my insurance will fix glass damage with no deductible . I’ve used it a few times and the S afelite fill/cure stuff is real strong and has lasted 7+ years for me until I sold my last car (and I’m in the northeast with some wicked cold winters) . It doesn’t look perfect, but it looks 90% better and is will def. survive freeze/thaw.

Doesn’t seem like it actually goes through enough to let in a draft? I’d assume it would have to crack a whole lot before that were an issue?

I think you will want this replaced. The first cold morning when the defroster vents kick on it will crack across the entire windshield. It has happened to me several times.

Lol not cold coming through, the coming cold of the winter making it propagate.

That’s what I'm worried about yeah.

Haha, yes that makes a lot more sense (I’m clearly an idiot) .
Y ou can see about a repair (especially if your insurance does it free). If it can’t be repaired, you can always wait and see if it spreads, it’s not like replacement is going to be any more expensive if the crack is bigger (unless your whole windshield explodes and you crash or something, but that seems unlikely).

Not sure I trust "seems unlikely" with this car anymore lol

Easy way to stop cracks from spreading: just drill a hole at the end of each line! Never tried it on glass, but...

Well, you could be looking at a $3,000 transmission rebuild.

A good glass shop might be able to repair it and fill it with resin so it won’t spread at least. $20-$40 is the going rate around here. I’ve had them fix three chips on my wife’s pacifica so far, and that was before it was a year old.

I imagine that's next months problem.

It’s this month’s problem for me.

Well, it’s a 2003 Odyssey with 195k miles on the original transmission, so I figure I’m doing pretty well. I want it to go at least three more years until I pay off the other car. Honda wanted $6,000+ to put in a rebuilt transmission. I’m getting done for half that at an independent shop.
